[00:00:00] Welcome to the liberating teams podcast. Did I just say that like, is this really happening? Y'all, this has been such a long time coming and I am so excited to finally welcome you into this space. So I wanted to kick things off by just sharing a little bit about, um, My intentions for this podcast and this space that I want to create for you.
So if you are new to liberating teams, our mission is to disrupt the outdated leadership practices that are running rampant in corporate culture today. We 1000 percent believe that if we can equip you as the leader with the tools, the systems, the know how to challenge the status quo, the hierarchical, the command and control ways of working.
and teach you how to lead in a new way, a way focused on building empowered teams, running radically simplified operations, and driving true meaningful impact. [00:01:00] We believe that is the key to changing the world. Corporate culture. We are fully in on creating workplaces where leaders feel supported, like they have been equipped to show up and lead their teams, not simply running from this reactive mode, just trying to keep up with the day to day.
We believe in teams that operate at their full potential, that have everything they need to not only meet. Their potential, but exceed it. And we believe that success. No longer has to come at the cost of wellbeing. We are saying out with the hustle culture and all in on how we can be very thoughtful with our team's time, their energy, and focusing that on what matters most and doing it in a way that allows us to have energy.
Do you have brain capacity to actually live a full and meaningful life outside of work? That is the mission we are on here at liberating teams. And this space is one piece of doing just [00:02:00] that. I know as a busy leader, you are going a million miles per minute. not only at work, but once you get off and getting plugged into your day to day life.
And that means the time to actually invest in learning something new is very minimal. And the last thing I want is you having to spend more time studying. Sitting in front of a screen when you do that all day long. And that's why I have been so excited to bring this podcast through to fruition because I know it's going to be a simple way for you to plug in when you are driving to work late at night when you're doing the dishes.
Heck, you know, those crazy nights when the baby's woken up four different times and you're rocking her back to sleep and you just need something to keep you awake, then you plug in an earphone and you can rock your baby while also, um, educating yourself and investing in yourself. Hey, I've been there. So that's exactly what I wanted this space to be.
Now that means that this space is going to be simple. There are a few reasons why this isn't going to be some super overproduced, um, [00:03:00] podcast where I'm like right now I'm sitting in my bathroom hiding. Um, cause this is the one space I have to record in somewhat quiet. Um, But it's not going to be some like very structured, you know, space where it's like, Oh, here's this like three part lesson with some like mind boggling takeaway.
Like, I don't want it to be that. I want it to be. Simple. I want it to be like you and me sitting at a coffee shop, having a conversation. I want it to be you and me standing in front of a whiteboard, brainstorming through this, and that's going to look like me on a walk outside. Hey guys, something just hit me and I wanted to bring it forth to you.
Here's what I've been thinking. It's going to look like me. Um, outside with my kids, potentially. You know, occasionally jumping in and saying a word or two, it's going to look like blending life and work. And I'm doing that because one, that's my current reality. I'm a stay at home mom running a full time business and pouring into you guys.
And it's also intentional because I really want you [00:04:00] guys to see one of our core values here, which is that you can get high impact results through simple ways of working. We believe that we have to have this like super perfect, everything together, beautifully drawn out plan, everything perfect in order to do the thing.
That's how corporate culture conditions our mindset. Like, if it's not going to be the best, then don't do it, but we need, like, that is what creates this fear of failure, this, well, I'm just not even going to try it. And I really want to show an example of how you can run, how you can do it. Do something and do it well, even if it's not quote unquote, the definition or everyone else's definition of perfect.
And you can still get insane results from it. And so that is why my intention for this space is to be authentic, to be, um, something that comes in his birth in the middle of a full life, because that is what I want for you guys is to be able to lead and still live a full life. And you don't have to sacrifice one or the other.
So what are we going to be [00:05:00] covering? in this space. There's a few things that we're going to be diving into. One is finding a way to lead that's authentically you. Like I mentioned, there are so many, like the corporate culture conditions us that there is one way to lead. And that is because we do not do a great job of supporting our leaders in development, in educating them.
If you even receive some sort of leadership development, it was probably very, very surface level. And so the only way you had to learn leadership was from leaders before you. And for some of us, we had really great examples. But for a lot of us, the examples were more so about what not to do when you're a leader.
Yet that is the only quote unquote leadership development that we have received. And so we believe in order to be successful as leaders, there's one way to do it. It's by playing the game, quote unquote, we have very few examples of leaders who have challenged the status quo and done so successfully. And therefore we believe when we show up, we can't show up as our authentic selves.
We need to show up in a way where we're playing the game. When we're doing what I call [00:06:00] performative leadership, we are embodying this persona of what we feel like we need to be in order to be successful in our role. And in this podcast, we are going to be specifically challenging those mindset beliefs.
I am passionate about you guys finding a way to lead that feels in alignment with who you are because every day you spend showing up to work, which is the majority of your week and you are leading in a way that's in not in alignment with who you are. That's not in alignment with what you value. Then that is draining your energy.
You are showing up every day to something that's taking up a majority of your hours in your week having to be Someone different having to perform or play this game That's not who you are. And that is why you're feeling at the end of that day the drain that you have The, the lack of energy to even go back to your life and live it to the fullest.
So this is all about challenging those beliefs and showing you there is a different way to lead and a way that aligns with who you are in the season you were in. Whether that be a season where you're able to go all in 24 seven versus a [00:07:00] season where, you know, you have a full life right now and you want to lead to your fullest.
But also make sure you're protecting your time and energy for that life. So whatever that season is, there is a way of leading for you. And we're going to explore that here. The other thing that we want to talk about here is simple and sustainable ways of working that drive true, meaningful impact. Like I mentioned before, we are conditioned to believe that complexity, that perfection is what breeds results that hustle, hustle, hustle, do more.
Create more, more projects, more outputs. That's what breeds results. But we are here to challenge that and say, there's actually simple ways of working ways that are sustainable. Cause let me tell you, going throughout your leadership, your leadership career at a full out. Um, sprint breakneck speed is not sustainable.
So if we don't do the work to actually learn simple ways of working, of running our teams that still deliver those high impact results, we are going to burn out quickly. And so this is all about teaching you guys quick, simple hits for how to shift how you're leading and operating your team that are going to allow you to lead.
[00:08:00] And then the last thing we're going to be doing is no shocker here, but challenging the status quo, most of the stuff you are going to be hearing here is going to test the beliefs of what you've thought leadership and work needs to look like we are all about innovating and doing things differently. My goal is to get you into that space of uncomfortableness because when you are uncomfortable, that's where growth happens.
So I want to challenge your beliefs to get you to think differently, to say, Hey, maybe there is a different way to do this. Maybe there is a simpler way to do this. Maybe there's a way that's more aligned with who I am as a leader. That I can tap into that is what this is all about. And so in these episodes where I'm talking about something that maybe isn't in alignment with what you thought leadership or, um, leading your team was about, I want you to still, to continue to plug into the [00:09:00] conversation, listen, think through, is this a new way that maybe not might not be for me in this season might not be for my team in this season.
but still listening with open ears and an open mind and continuing to learn from this. And then going straight over to Instagram and DMing me and having a conversation about it. Cause I am all about hearing you guys out your perspectives and learning from you guys. Okay. So that is my intentions for this space.
That is what I plan to dive into in this space. Now, I also wanted to dive into a little bit about me for those of you guys who are new to the liberating team space. My name is Holly breeding and I will be your host throughout this podcast. Um, my background is in industrial organizational psychology. It is a frigging mouthful, but essentially what that means is I'm a super nerd on all levels.
All [00:10:00] things creating high performing teams and making work a better, more human place. I'd spent over a decade in corporate consulting, working with hundreds of different teams who were struggling to, in a variety of ways, either internally and how they were operating.
Operating together or getting results. And I dove in, got to the root of what was going on and help them transform their ways of working. And throughout that 10 years of doing that, I was able to fully play with new ways of working, challenging the status quo, and really seeing movements be born out of this.
You know, starting with a company and them saying, Oh my gosh, Holly, you're crazy. We can't do that. And After a few years, next thing you know, it's not just one team we've impacted. It's become a full company wide movement that everyone wants a part of. And [00:11:00] that just so lit my heart on fire. And I knew I wanted to bring this to more leaders.
I wanted more leaders to know that there was a new way, a different way of leading their teams. I wanted more leaders to be able to be liberated from this feeling that leadership needed to be one way. And that is exactly what liberating teams was born out of. And that's exactly what we do day in and day out.
We are on a mission to liberate teams by pouring into leaders and creating a new generation of how we lead. And so I am so freaking excited to be here with you guys. I'm so excited to create this place for you guys and I'm so pumped to get to work. So let's dive in.
